Online Domestic Violence Support GroupMany men and women have contacted us recently about support groups. We have decided to use the chat feature here to offer online Support Groups. Due to the fact that we are a Statewide program and also are often contacted by individuals from the entire New England region and beyond, face to face support groups can be difficult to offer to everyone without an army of volunteers. We will be actively pursuing the idea of face to face support groups in the future but in the meantime we think that these online support groups will serve the needs of those who have internet access until we have that army of trained volunteers and we acquire space to conduct them. This will be a huge undertaking due to the extent of our reach as a program.
In the meantime Tuesday 7:30PM -8:30PM and Thursday 7:00PM-8:00PM. We will have an online Support Group here. We will also have another Support Group on Sunday nights from 6:00PM-7:30PM. Initially, these will begin as "co-ed" Groups and will be open to ALL who wish to participate. As we progress, we will ask participants to give us feedback on how this is working for them. As we move forward in this effort, we will then determine if the Groups will become gender or issue specific. There are many common denominators among those of us who have experienced domestic violence regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation or lifestyle, so a Group open to ALL may work out with no problem. On the other hand, there are issues that are unique to any given group of individuals, based on the dynamics of the relationship to the abusive partner, based on gender, sexual orientation, age etc. We will initially begin these as inclusive groups open to all, however, later we may have specific groups based on need. Please, pass the word about these Support Groups and if it pertains to you, sign into the Chat function in this group and join us at the specific times noted above. We will also post these in our Calendar here in the Group.
