We are very pleased to announce that the Violence Against Women Act has been passed (on December 17th) with some important changes that allow funding of services for male victims of domestic violence.
The language of the bill now reads:
(8) NONEXCLUSIVITY- Nothing in this title shall be construed to prohibit male victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking from receiving benefits and services under this title.
This is a huge victory for SAFE and our allies. We still need your support, however. This next year will be a critical time as we test the new law out, and apply for funding.
Another part of the bill mandates a GAO study on domestic violence services throughout the country.
